Clustered DNS is now enabled! Thumbs up for reliability.

redundant

Regardless of how many promises or guarantees we have in place, downtime is something that is going to happen from time to time. For us to say otherwise would be unrealistic and unfair to you. Instead, we’ve accepted the fact that things can go wrong and we’ve done our best to plan for each of these situations the best we can.

With that said, adding any form of redundancy or reliability to our service is something I take great personal pride in. In the event downtime does occur with our hosting services, the new clustered DNS setup will allow for email to be queued until services come back online! The clustered DNS setup will also improve initial response times when people visit your domain name.

Daily backups hosted off server and DNS clustering

Fork_In_The_Road

The push to launching had more great progress over the past 24 hours. I’ve been busy doing my best to setup and configure all the addon services and loose ends that were outstanding.

WHMCS is now fully updated, the knowledgebase has some basic articles to get us started, RoundCube webmail is now installed and the rvsitebuilder license was purchased and installed. It all sounds easy on here but that was most of my night last night.

We’re almost there! This weekend was a big push forward

DS1 Start finish line

This weekend marked a strong push forward to the completion and launch of our website. If I had to toss a percentage on the entire project being ready I would say we’re at about 80%. A solid evening or two should finish the website and then we need to bring our WHMCS installation current. Aside from that, just some minor odds and ends.

This weekend I finally had a chance to renew our edge and metis SSL certificates. Since the server is only hosting private clients who have known me for years, it wasn’t a big issue being expired. Anyways, nice to have those nasty warnings gone.

Core site, promotion ideas & more

apple_core

The overall structure and design for the new website is now complete. Actually, I’m lying. I still have to play around with the promotions page. I’m burned out and about finished for today though. Marking it down for tomorrow! I’m so pleased with the website look, content, etc. I think it really portrays the exact image we were going for.

*insert random thought* I think I’m going to work with Brad and get a guide for new website owners put together. Maybe touch on the entire process from choosing a domain name to loading up your finished website. It definitely couldn’t hurt…

Hosting companies and presale questions

narkolepsja

It’s no secret that we one day plan to offer VPS, dedicated and other hosting services along with the standard shared hosting we’re going to launch with. I figured I would start early and send out a couple of emails to datacenters in New York & Toronto.

Without naming names, the New York company took over 72 hours to respond back to my initial email. The Toronto provide was about 34 hours if I’m not mistaken.

Generating content for the website… zzzz…

tired-kitten

I’ve made my fair share of websites over the years but I really want this one to be special. Sounds cheesey, I know. In doing my best to harness all my past lessons, mistakes, etc I’m really burning myself out sitting here working on the same thing over and over. Why am I typing this? Because I almost walked away instead of putting in a few more hours. I must put in a few more hours.

I think instead of sitting here with a big blank notepad file I’ll actually try some brainstorming, point form… start small and work from there. Definitely a complete change from how I normally handle things. Feet first!
